Back To The Beginning

Quite the departure from what I wore up to Friday, yesterday, I wore a very bright colour -- fuschia.  (Unfortunately, I didn't take any outfit photos.)  Today, however, I am back to black and grey.  So I guess that I am ending the week the same way that I started it.

I am wearing a flannel shirt by Urban Renewal from Urban Outfitters, a knit jumper dress by H&M, a wool cardigan from an off-price store, leggings by Lululemon, socks by Hue and boots by Fluevog.

From Black And Grey to Camel

I had not planned on not posting for so long (long for me anyways), it just happened that I couldn't post ... on Monday ... then on Tuesday ... then on Wednesday.  Strangely, though, while I haven't been posting daily since Saturday, I have still been taking outfit photos daily.  When I sat down to write a post today and looked at all the photos that I had taken since Saturday (with the intent of trying to figure out how to post all the photos -- you know, all in one post or in multiple posts), I realized that something was going on this week.  I was slowly transitioning from wearing black and grey to wearing camel.  I found the transition kind of neat.  I am not sure that I would have noticed this transition if I had been posting daily.  Neat, huh?  Okay, maybe neat just for me.  (And maybe I just see it because I want to see it!)  I wonder what I will wear tomorrow?

On Sunday (above), I wore a sweater dress by Miss Green Originals, a button-up wool mock neck by H&M, leggings by Lululemon, over-the-knee socks by H&M and riding boots by JCrew.  My button scarf is handknit and a gift.

On Monday (above), I wore a blouse by H&M, a sweater dress by Zara, a wrap cardigan by H&M, leggings by Lululemon, over-the-knee socks by H&M and riding boots by JCrew.  My heart pin is from a museum shop.

On Tuesday (above), I wore an oversized wool turtleneck by Zara, cavalry pants by Lands End, over-the-knee socks by H&M and riding boots by JCrew.

On Wednesday (above), I wore a shirt by the Gap, a hooded wool cardigan by the Gap with a belt by Old Navy, a skirt by H&M, leggings by Lululemon, an unknown brand (I can't remember the brand) of over-the-knee socks and riding boots by JCrew.

Today (above), I wore a shirt by the Gap with a tie from Urban Outfitters, a vest by H&M, a jacket by LLBean, a skirt by Lands End, tights by H&M and riding boots by JCrew.

Valentine's Day Outfit

The outfit that I wore today was the outfit that I wanted to, but didn't, wear on Valentine's Day.  I think that that is about all that I have to say about today's outfit.  I am not sure what is going on with me, not having anything to say about clothes.  Could it be the February blahs?  I hope everyone's weekend is going well.

I am wearing a dress by Miss Green Originals, a cashmere double-breasted cardigan by Gap, tights and over-the-knee socks by H&M, riding boots by JCrew and a beret by American Apparel.

Blue Sapphires Plaid Dress

Sometimes, like today, I just wear the clothes and I don't talk about them, simply because I don't have much (if anything) to say about them.  I could talk about a certain red mini dress that I just got, but I think that I will leave talking about it to the day when I wear it (hopefully, not too far away).

I am wearing a dress and shawl collar cardigan by Lands End Canvas, old tights by Roots, old wool work socks from an off-price store and boots by Fluevog.

Spring Is In The Air Skirt

Every year I seem to bring out the skirt that I wore today either in early Spring or (as I did this year) in pre-Spring.  I think that it is the cheerful, sunny colour of the skirt; I associate the colour with "warmish" temperatures.

It is no secret that I love (nay, adore) wellies, in particular, Hunters.  Today, I was walking by a shoe store and noticed a new style of Hunters in the store's window -- a lace-up ankle boot.  I don't know whether the boot comes in a wide array of colours, but the store had the boot in black and green.  I stopped and peered longingly at the green boot.  Then I told myself that the last thing that I needed was another pair of wellies.  But, oh, I was so entranced.  But, no, I didn't need another pair of wellies.  I started walking away.  I got about 5 steps away when I turned around and walked right into the store, deciding that these Hunters weren't like my other Hunters and why couldn't I have another pair of Hunters.  Oh I am so weak when it comes to Hunters.  The most remarkable thing happened next:  in all of the locations of this particular shoe store, there was only one pair of the boots in my size and they weren't at any location remotely convenient to me.  Oddly, I was ecstatic!  I couldn't have them.  I tried to have them and found out that I couldn't.  Now, I could put the boots out of the mind and move on.  I know that I should have been stronger to begin with, but things worked out as they should have.

I am wearing a vintage JCrew cashmere sweater, a vintage skirt with a vintage patent leather belt, old tights (brand unknown), vintage H&M over-the-knee socks and riding boots by JCrew.  My duffle coat is vintage Old Navy, my scarf is vintage H&M, my wool beret is vintage and my gloves are vintage Kenneth Cole Reaction.

Fade To Blue Sweater

I just couldn't resist wearing the blue boots again today.  I have really missed them!

And, here is my "excuse" for wearing the blue skirt again today:  I have had the blue sweater that I wore today for a while now and I have wanted to pair it with the blue skirt for a while now.  Today seemed like a good day to bring the blue sweater and the blue skirt together.  (Admittedly, laziness accounts for some of my wearing the blue skirt again today.  I didn't want to think too much about what I should wear today.)

I am wearing a vintage Preloved wool cowl neck, a vintage Sparrow zip-up wool cardigan, a vintage H&M wool skirt, old un-sweatpants by Roots, old wool work socks from an off-price store and boots by Fluevog.  My coat is vintage H&M, my wool beret is vintage and my gloves are vintage Kenneth Cole Reaction.

Clear Blue Skies Skirt

After being stowed away in my closet for at least two months, today, I pulled out the blue Fluevog boots that I had acquired in the Fall ... and had promptly fallen in love with.  As I put them on, I realized just how much I have missed them.

I am wearing an old flannel shirt from TNT with a sterling silver pin from El Mundo, vintage H&M wool vest, wool skirt and wool cardigan, old un-sweatpants by Roots and old wool work socks from an off-price store.  My button scarf is handknit and a gift, my beret is vintage and my blue boots are by Fluevog.

Frostbitten Red Roses Plaid Jumper Dress

Oh, Mother Nature!  How you toy with us.  You let us taste warmer weather, barely wetting our lips, then you take it away from us and return us to the bitter cold.  I suppose the silver lining is that, on this St. Valentine's Day, giving us cold weather makes us want to do nothing more than cosy up to the fireplace.  Not such a bad thing.

I don't usually give much thought to dressing for St. Valentine's Day, but, today, I did give it some thought, honouring the day with a red plaid jumper dress and a silver heart pin.  I didn't want to go overboard, dressing head to toe in red (not that there is anything wrong with that), but I did want to give a small nod to the day.  I think that I managed to do so.

Returning to the weather for just a moment, for some reason, this year, I am still enjoying dressing for the cold, even if I am not enjoying the cold itself.  In fact, I am so enjoying dressing for the cold that I don't really care how much longer it goes on for.  My apologies to those who want Spring now.  But just so you know, as much as I am enjoying dressing for the cold, I won't be unhappy if, all of a sudden, I have to dress for Spring.

I am wearing a vintage Club Monaco blouse, a vintage wool jumper dress (from Sally Jane Vintage on Etsy), a vintage H&M wool cardigan, unsweatpants by H&M and riding boots by JCrew.  My duffle coat is vintage Gloverall for the Hudson's Bay Company, my scarf and mitts are vintage H&M and my wool beret is vintage.  My sterling silver heart pin is vintage.

Taking The Edge Off The Cold Sweater

Sometimes, when I get a new garment, I wear it, the first time, in a particular way, and I am thrilled with that way of wearing the garment.  Later (but not that much later), I wear the garment in another way, and I prefer this other way of wearing it.  In fact, I start to wonder why I was so thrilled with that first way of wearing the garment.  Curious isn't it?  Do I change so much between the first and second wearing of the garment?

Some of my favourite vintage clothing sellers on Etsy have been marking down some of their Winter stock, clearing out their shops of Winter stock to make room for Spring/Summer stock.  Needless to say I am taking advantage of these mark downs.  One of the things that I like about shopping on Etsy is that the packages are usually so pretty that I almost don't want to open them ... almost.

I am wearing a sweater dress by Miss Green Originals, a vintage Gap cashmere double-breasted cardigan, knit leggings by H&M and riding boots by JCrew.  My coat is vintage H&M, my gloves are vintage Nine West and my beret is vintage.

A Pleasant Surprise

Iz bakinog ormara awarded me a "Stylish Blogger Award".  I was pleasantly surprised; I really appreciate the gesture.  As a recipient of the award, I am supposed to say seven things about myself.  Here goes:

One:  Up until about five years ago, my closet was a sea of black and I never set foot outside my house in anything but black.  Then, all of a sudden, something happened (to this day, I don't know what that something was) and I started wearing colour, in fact, all the colours of the rainbow.  My transition into wearing colour was by no means gradual, as might be expected of someone who wore only black.  No, I went straight from black to the candy colours of the 60s mod girl.  And, I never wore a bit of black for about two years.  Now, I have settled into wearing a balance of colours and black.

Two:  For the longest time now, I have been fascinated with the lives of Amelia Earhart and Jean Seberg.  I have read every single biography written and watched every single documentary made about Amelia Earhart that I have been able to get my hands on.  I have read Amelia Earhart's account of her first cross-Atlantic crossing.  I have read fictional works dealing with Amelia Earhart, watched movies about Amelia Earhart and watched episodes of TV shows about Amelia Earhart (believe it or not, there was a Star Trek episode about Amelia Earhart).  Learning about Jean Seberg hasn't been as easy as finding out about Amelia Earhart.  Sadly, the one biography written about Jean Seberg hasn't been in print for some time now and I have yet to be able to get my hands on a second (or third or fourth or whatever) copy of the biography.  Is it strange that I am fascinated with the lives of two women who died young?

Three:  Two fictional characters that I would love to be (if I could be a fictional character) are Nancy Drew and Miss Marple.  Mystery lovers and sleuths at opposite ends of the age spectrum.  Hmmmm.

Four:  I am saddened by the fact that travelling is no longer a glamourous, luxurious and leisurely activity.

Five:  Some places on the top of my list to visit are (in no particular order): Iceland, Venice and St. Petersburg, Russia (in Winter of course).

Six:  I am shy.

Seven:  Probably related to my being shy, I don't like to be photographed (not even by myself).  Whenever I find myself in a situation where there is a photographer about snapping pics, I make sure that I am never in the photographer's "shooting range".  Because I don't like to be photographed (not even by myself), it is very difficult for me to have a personal style photoblog (a big thank you to all my supporters).

Well, there you have it.

As a recipient of the "Stylish Blogger Award", I have the honour of passing it on (15 bloggers).  I would like to pass it on first to Sally Jane Vintage, whose blog has provided me with much inspiration.

I am wearing an old Zara dress, a vintage H&M sweater, vintage Lululemon leggings, vintage over-the-knee socks of an unknown brand and boots by JCrew.  My button scarf was handknit and a gift and my wool beret is vintage.

Cossack's Tunic Coat Dress

The dress that I wore on Friday is one of my favourite, and one of my warmest, Winter dresses.  When I pulled it out earlier this week, with the intention of wearing it this week, I was a bit amazed that I hadn't worn it yet this Winter -- particularly since being incredibly warm it can only be worn when it is extremely cold and it has been extremely cold for the better part of this Winter.  I think that, because of where it is stowed in my house -- not within easy reach -- I had actually forgotten about it; I was excited to have re-discovered it this week.

The reason that the dress is incredibly warm is because it is actually a coat.  From the moment I tried the garment on, I knew that I would prefer to wear it as a dress, rather than as a coat, because the materials used to make the garment aren't "heavy" enough for me to consider the garment a coat.  I do think that I tried wearing the garment as a coat once, but, if I recall correctly, without much satisfaction.  The garment was made by a local (to my home city) label -- Momiji.  One of the things that I like about the label is that it uses vintage material to create some of its garments, like the dress that I wore on Friday.  I have another garment by Momiji, a jacket (click here to see it).  I am not sure, though, that that garment was made of vintage textiles.

I am wearing a vintage Momiji coat as a dress with a vintage silver pin, a vintage Zara boiled wool shawl collar jacket, old Roots un-sweatpants, vintage CK wool over-the-knee socks and riding boots by JCrew.

Mustard Seed Grower's Sherpa Fleece Lined Work Shirt Jacket

I am at a loss for words today.  I think it's because I am trying to write a very particular post (which, I hope, I will complete and publish this weekend) and, when I think of posts, my mind becomes completely preoccupied with that very particular post.  I can't think of anything but that post.  Which means I can't think of today's post.  So if I sound like I am babbling, I probably am.  My apologies.

I bought the Sherpa fleece lined work shirt that I wore today (as a jacket) a couple of weeks ago.  I bought it because I loved the colours in it, because I love plaid flannel shirts and because I thought a Sherpa fleece lined plaid work shirt would prove to be practical.  I also bought it because it was on sale ... seriously marked down.  I didn't exactly know how I would wear it when I saw it in the store (even though I loved it), so it being seriously marked down was a huge incentive to buy it -- it made it a low risk purchase.  It was only recently that it occurred to me to try wearing it as a jacket for work.  I think I love it ... as a jacket for work.

I am wearing an old Gap shirt with a tie from Urban Outfitters, a corduroy vest by BDG from Urban Outfitters, a Sherpa fleece lined plaid work shirt by Salt Valley Working Products Mfg Co from Urban Outfitters, a vintage RW & Co skirt, vintage Gap leggings, vintage H&M over-the-knee socks and riding boots by JCrew.

The Red And Green Chili Peppers Plaid Dress

I am not entirely sure that I managed to lure the creativity out of its warm place, but I did manage not to re-wear an outfit.  (Not that that has ever been my goal, where putting together outfits is concerned.  In case there is any question about what my goal in putting together outfits is, it is this: to be happy and comfortable.)

Just a quick note about my socks.  They are over-the-knee socks by Levis that mock wool work socks (they are of cotton not wool).  When they were offered for sale (years ago now), they came in a variety of colours, but I was only able to buy them in grey.  It took me no more than a couple of days after purchasing the socks in grey to decide that I should get them in other colours as well.  However, the socks were so popular that even after just a couple of days the store had sold out of them.  Since then, they have never been offered for sale again.  I have always wondered why.  Why Levis?

I am wearing a dress and cardigan by Lands End Canvas, woollen leggings by H&M, vintage Levis socks and vintage Sorels.
