week 11 new looks: jackets, a cardi and bare arms

have been away from the blog for a bit. mostly because i have been re-wearing outfits that have already appeared on the blog. so, basically, nothing to see here. the weather in my neck of the woods has been, well, the usual for this time of year. wintery for the most part with the occasional spring-like day thrown in. so layers work best. and having puffer jackets and light jackets to hand is a must. here is how i have been coping. i will leave it at that. still a few weeks to go before i change over to pulling from the spring/summer wardrobe. there may be one or two new outfits from the autumn/winter wardrobe before then -- if i am feeling particularly inspired. (honestly, february and march are always hard months for me -- lack of inspiration big time.)  otherwise, the next time i appear here, i will be wearing spring/summer clothes.

week 6 new looks: as it was meant to be

some time ago, i mentioned a few pieces of clothing that would make my top ten pieces of clothing. they were boilersuits (or jumpsuits) and overalls, both trouser and skirt versions. long skirts with some volume to them would definitely go in my top ten. and this love of long skirts isn't tied to a season -- i love long skirts in every season. that is now three pieces of clothing on my top ten list. (starting to wonder if ten is too generous a number for can't-live-without pieces of clothing. if i keep going with the list, i guess i will find out. maybe it will end up being too low a number!)

week 4 new looks: thoughts of laundry

because i buy the bulk of my clothes online, on occasion, when i first pull the clothing from their packages, after the initial reaction of, "oh wow," my first thought is, "this is going to be really heavy when i pull it out of the washer". had that first thought a lot this season.

week 3 new looks: oh snap, a cold snap

i will not say that i don't have enough clothes. but i will say that every autumn/winter season, i only concoct a limited number of outfits that work when there is a cold snap. and by work i mean keep me sufficiently warm. there was a cold snap this week. here are some outfits that i tried to wear this week but that i ended up changing out of because ... well ... they did not keep me sufficiently warm. i ended up wearing an outfit from earlier in the season (if you are curious, see last year's week 42 new looks).

week 2 new looks: it was a denim kind of week

it was a denim kind of week. distressed denim overdyed with khaki to be precise. wonder what the coming week will bring?

week 1 new looks: there is for sure a trend

every new year, i (along with i suspect every other clothing lover out there without an unlimited amount of money to spend on discretionary purchases) make the same resolution. some version of consuming fewer new clothes. i think i made some progress in this regard in 2023. but not near enough to dispense with the resolution for 2024. i try hard not to be hard on myself for not fully meeting my resolutions/goals -- as long as i am making progress in the right direction, and i am trying, i am okay. so with that look back on 2023, here is to another year of the consume fewer new clothes resolution.

week 52 archive looks: when the going gets tough ...

one thing i have noticed about myself is that, when i am having a tough time with things that have nothing to do with clothes, my mood spills over into the clothing part of my life. this is when i stand in front of an abundance of clothing yet feel like i have absolutely nothing to wear. i think i want clothes to make it all better, but i recognize that clothes can't make it all better. it only it were that simple. i honestly don't know how i manage to get dressed when the going gets tough. part of it, i think, is having lots of already assembled outfits to choose from (so grateful for my ability to remember the better part of the outfits that i have put together over the years). the other part is probably giving myself lots of time to get dressed -- because this is definitely a time of multiple outfit changes before landing on the one that is right.
